GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball program has a new head coach.

48-year-old Doug Gottlieb was hired by the University on Tuesday to succeed Sundance Wicks, who left after one season to become Head Coach at the University of Wyoming.

Gottlieb is a well-known name and voice; Since 2002, he has worked as a radio host and NCAA Basketball analyst for three networks.

“I can promise you this; You won’t get more out of a man than you will out of me,” Gottlieb said. “And I’m not going to accept anything less than that from them (pointing to UWGB men’s basketball players). I want those guys to get what I had.”

Gottlieb played his college basketball at Notre Dame from 1995-96 and Oklahoma State from 1997-2000, where he excelled as a junior, leading the nation in assists and finishing second in the country during his senior season and helping the Cowboys reach the Elite 8 in the reach the NCAA. Tournament.

This is Gottlieb’s first head coaching job, although he was an assistant with Team USA during three Maccabiah Games tournaments in Israel.

Gottlieb says he will continue his nationally syndicated radio show while running the program.

“I want to use the fact that I have a national radio show to promote that something special is happening in Green Bay, Wisconsin,” Gottlieb said. “That it is a special place to live, raise a family and coach basketball.”
