Cleveland Guardians score 7 again in win over Texas Rangers

The Cleveland Guardians scored four runs in the eighth and three in the ninth to win 7-0 at the Texas Rangers. It’s Cleveland’s second straight 7-0 victory after the Guardians shutout the White Sox on Sunday.

José Ramírez drove in four runs and led the offensive attack, while Tanner Bibee had four relievers to shutout Cleveland. Bibee worked the first 5.1 innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out four.

The Guardians pitched back-to-back shutouts for the first time since eliminating the Cincinnati Reds in back-to-back games, Aug. 5-6, 2020, in Cleveland.

Bibee left with the bases loaded in the sixth and one out. Nick Sandlin pitched out of those jams, striking out one and keeping the game scoreless.

Hunter Gaddis, Tim Herrin and Emmanuel Clase each worked a scoreless inning in relief for the Guardians, combining for five strikeouts and giving up just one hit between them.

Texas starter Michael Lorenzen threw seven scoreless innings before the Guardians went to work with the Texas bullpen, which was a weakness for the reigning World Series champions.

Brayan Rocchio’s RBI single in the eighth gave the Guardians a 1-0 lead. Ramírez later followed with a two-run single for a 3-0 lead. A wild pitch enabled Andrés Giménez to score the fourth run in the inning.

Three runs in the ninth ended the game. Giménez delivered an RBI double and Ramirez followed with another two-run single.

Ramirez, Giménez and Rocchio each had two hits for the Guardians, who improved to 26-16. On Tuesday, the AL Central took the lead with a game against the Twins.
