Huskies baseball stars receive all-conference honors

(KNSI) – Two St. Cloud State baseball players have been named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference First Team.

The awards were announced Tuesday for starting pitcher Luke Tupy and third baseman Cal James. Both are residents of Minnesota. James transferred to SCSU this season after playing for U-Mary in North Dakota. He was named the conference’s 2021 Freshman of the Year. Last season there were more awards for James.

The third baseman is hitting .366 with a ton of extra base power. James has hit 13 home runs, another 14 doubles and scored 53 runs. He is second on the team with 49 RBI. All of these numbers rank in the top ten in the conference.

Starter Luke Tupy took the mound 11 times and posted a 7-2 record with an earned series average under three. Tupy has held opposing hitters to a .202 average while fanning 82, a conference best for strikeouts. The left-hander was named NSIC Pitcher of the Week twice in 2024.

The team begins the Northern Sun tournament on Wednesday. Tupy is just 25 strikeouts shy of the school’s all-time singles scoring record. The Huskies will play Wayne State College in the first round at noon in Bismarck, North Dakota.
