Mississippi authorities arrested a Texas murder suspect Tuesday morning after launching a manhunt when officers identified a car belonging to a West Texas murder victim.

WAPT in Jackson reports that the Warren County Sheriff’s Office took Marcus Jamar Thompson, 29, of Webster, Texas, into custody at approximately 6:15 a.m.

Monday evening, officers recovered a black Nissan Altima with Texas license plates from the community of China Grove. Officers discovered the vehicle belonged to a West Texas murder victim.

Officers monitored the vehicle for hours after finding some of the suspect’s personal belongings in a nearby forest.

The search was later expanded to include dogs and drones.

Thompson was arrested without incident as he walked out of the woods Monday morning near Highway 27 and China Grove Road, where officers had set up a checkpoint.

Thompson reportedly has a relative in Vicksburg. He now awaits extradition to Webster, Texas, where he faces murder charges.
