WOMAN CONVICTED OF VERMILLION DEATH





A WOMAN FROM SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS IN PRISON, INCLUDING 10 YEARS SUSPENDED, AFTER PREVIOUSLY PLEADING GUILTY TO CHARGES FOR A 2023 MARKET DEATH IN VERMILLION, SOUTH DAKOTA.

CHEZAYIA LIGGINS, 20, WAS CONVICTED THURSDAY IN CLAY COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT.

LIGGINS WAS CHARGED ON JULY 30, 2023 FOR THE DEATH OF VERMILLION, 47-YEAR-OLD CHRISTOPHER BARTLING.

She received a 15-year sentence on one count of aggravated assault, and a 10-year sentence on one count of second-degree manslaughter.

THE SENTENCES WILL BE EXECUTED CONSECUTIVELY.

A 10-YEAR SENTENCE FOR A SECOND OFFENSE OF MANSLAUGHTER IN THE SECOND DEGREE WAS SUSPENDED.
