Big weekly recap of the 12 baseball games – May 7

We’re entering the final stretch of the regular season and the Big 12 remains solid, if not spectacular, in baseball.

In the latest D1 Baseball rankings, the Big 12 is represented by Oklahoma at 18th and Oklahoma State at 19th.

From games through May 6, 10 of the 13 teams have a winning record, with Baylor, BYU and Houston being the only teams not to have a winning record.

Let’s take a look at each Big 12 team and how they fared in games this past week. This list is sorted alphabetically.

Baylor (20-26, 9-15 Big 12)

Last Tuesday, Baylor won a midweek home game against UT Arlington 5-3. Baylor scored two runs in the first inning and then held off UT Arlington for the win.

Last weekend, Baylor hosted a three-game series against TCU. They were swept 7-1, 9-7 in 11 innings and 10-6.

Next up for Baylor is a home game against Tarleton later today. Then a three-game road series against No. 18 Oklahoma begins on Friday.

BYU (18-26, 6-18 Big 12)

Last weekend, BYU played a three-game road series against Miami (FL). They lost the series 2-1, lost 3-2 and 6-4 and then won 8-2.

Next up for BYU is a midweek road game against Utah Valley later today. Then a three-game home series against Cincinnati begins on Thursday.

Cincinnati (27-21, 13-11 Big 12)

Last Tuesday, Cincinnati lost a midweek road game against Ohio State 12-6. An 8-0 run helped Ohio State to victory in this one.

Last weekend, Cincinnati hosted a three-game series against West Virginia. They won the series 2-1, lost 5-4 and then won 10-4 and 8-2.

Next up for Cincinnati is a road game against Indiana later today. Then a three-game road series against BYU begins on Thursday.

Houston (23-24, 6-17 Big 12)

Last Wednesday, Houston won a midweek road game against McNeese 9-8 in 10 innings. Houston erased a five-run deficit before walking a wild pitch in the 10th.

Last weekend, Houston hosted a three-game series against UCF. They were swept 4-1 and 6-4, after which game three was canceled due to weather conditions.

Next up for Houston is a home game against Nichols later today. Then a three-game road series against Kansas begins on Friday.

Kansas (27-17, 13-11 Big 12)

Last Wednesday, Kansas won a midweek home game against Wichita State 8-1. Kansas jumped out to an 8-0 start and then held off Wichita State for the win.

Last weekend, Kansas played a three-game road series against Kansas State. They lost the series 2-1, lost 3-2, won 4-0 and then lost again 4-2.

Next up for Kansas is a three-game home stretch against Houston starting Friday. This will be followed by a three-game road series against Texas to conclude the regular season.

Kansas State (28-19, 12-12 Big 12)

Last Wednesday, Kansas State lost a midweek road game against Nebraska 8-0. Kansas State was no-hit in the shutout loss.

Last weekend, Kansas State hosted a three-game series against Kansas. They won the series 2-1, won 3-2, lost 4-0 and then won again 4-2.

Next up for Kansas State is a three-game road series against West Virginia starting Friday. That will be followed by a three-game home stretch against BYU next weekend to conclude the regular season.

No. 18 Oklahoma (29-17, 18-6 Big 12)

Last Tuesday, Oklahoma lost a midweek road game against Oral Roberts 3-1. Oral Roberts jumped out to a 3-0 start and then held off Oklahoma for the win.

Last weekend, Oklahoma played a three-game road series against Texas Tech. They won the series 8-0, 7-5 and 8-7.

Next up for Oklahoma is a three-game homestand against Baylor starting Friday. This will be followed by a midweek road game against Xavier next Tuesday.

No. 19 Oklahoma State (32-16, 15-9 Big 12)

Last Tuesday, Oklahoma State won a midweek home game against Wichita State 21-6 in seven innings. Oklahoma State jumped out to a 16-0 start and never looked back in this blowout win.

Last weekend, Oklahoma State played a three-game road series against Texas. They lost the series 2-1, lost 7-5 and 6-3 and then won 7-2.

Next up for Oklahoma State is a three-game home stretch against Texas Tech starting Friday. That will be followed by a three-game road series against Houston next weekend to conclude the regular season.

TCU (29-16, 13-14 Big 12)

Last weekend, TCU played a three-game road series against Baylor. They won the series 7-1, 9-7 in 11 innings and 10-6.

Next up for TCU is a three-game home series against New Mexico State beginning Friday. This will be followed by a midweek home game against Baylor next Tuesday.

Texas (30-19, 15-9 Big 12)

Last Tuesday, Texas won a midweek home game against Sam Houston 16-9. Texas had a 14-0 run at one point and then held off a furious Sam Houston rally for the win.

Last weekend, Texas hosted a three-game series against No. 14 Oklahoma State. They won the series 2-1, won 7-5 and 6-3 and then lost 7-2.

Next up for Texas is a three-game road series against UCF starting Friday. That will be followed by a three-game homestand against Kansas next weekend to conclude the regular season.

Texas Tech (30-20, 12-15 Big 12)

Last Tuesday, Texas Tech won a midweek home game against UTRGV 11-6. The match was a back-and-forth affair with Texas Tech closing on a 5-0 run to win the match.

Last weekend, Texas Tech hosted a three-game series against No. 22 Oklahoma. They were swept 8-0, 7-5 and 8-7.

Next up for Texas Tech is a three-game road series against No. 19 Oklahoma State, starting Friday. That’s followed by a three-game road series with Arizona State and UNLV next weekend to conclude the regular season.

UCF (29-15, 11-12 Big 12)

Last Tuesday, UCF won a midweek road game against North Florida 6-2. The game was a back-and-forth affair early on, with UCF closing on a 4-0 run to win the game.

Last weekend, UCF played a three-game road series against Houston. They won the series 4-1 and 6-4, after which game three was canceled due to weather.

Next up for UCF is a midweek home game against North Florida later today. Then a three-game home series against Texas begins on Friday.

West Virginia (28-18, 15-9 Big 12)

Last Tuesday, West Virginia won a midweek neutral game against Pitt 11-1 in seven innings. West Virginia jumped out to an 11-0 start, which helped them run Pitt for the win.

Last weekend, West Virginia played a three-game road series against Cincinnati. They lost the series 2-1, won 5-4 and then lost 10-4 and 8-2.

Next up for West Virginia is a home game against Penn State tomorrow. Then a three-game home series against Kansas State begins on Friday.
