Centerville man caught with loaded gun and meth after high-speed chase in Vinton Co.

VINTON COUNTY, Ohio — A Centerville, Ohio man is now in custody after evading law enforcement in Vinton County.

Sheriff Ryan Cain reports that officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Route 50 on May 4. The driver, 30-year-old George Matthys, allegedly fled from officers in a silver Mercedes. The chase reached speeds of almost 105 MPH.

Officials said officers managed to apprehend the fleeing suspect after he entered heavy traffic. Officers were then able to block the vehicle, effectively ending the pursuit.

Matthys was arrested and taken to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. While searching the vehicle, officers reportedly found a loaded handgun and more than an ounce of suspected methamphetamine.

George Matthys is expected to appear in Vinton County court this week.
